Erste Eindrücke: Apple Music

In wenigen Stunden gibt Apple die finale Version von iOS 8.4 frei. Dies bedeutet gleichzeitig den Startschuss für Apple Music. Es heißt, dass iOS 8.4 um 17 Uhr als Download bereit stehen soll, eine Stunde später soll Apples 24/7 Live-Radiosender Beats 1 auf Sendung gehen.

Erste Eindrücke: Apple Music

Im Vorfeld des Apple Music Starts hat Apple ausgewählten Medienvertretern in den USA die Möglichkeit gegeben, Apple Music zu testen. Wir haben die ersten Eindrücke für euch zusammengefasst. Alles in allem und mit kleinen Einschränkungen zeigen sich die Vorabtester von Apples neuem Streaming-Dienst hellauf begeistert. Insbesondere die Kuration wird positiv hervorgehoben. Diese umschreibt Apple wie folgt

Kuration ist die Seele jeder Wiedergabeliste, die in Apple Music erstellt wurde. Apple hat die talentiertesten Musikexperten von überall auf der Welt angestellt, mit dem Ziel die perfekten Wiedergabelisten auf Basis der Vorlieben eines Nutzers zu erstellen. Und je mehr man hört, desto besser werden die Kuratoren.

Ein paar kleine Abzüge in der B-Note gibt es auch. So fehlen derzeit noch Liedtexte in Apple Music. Daran arbeitet Apple jedoch und will diese zu einem späteren Zeitpunkt integrieren.

I’m damned impressed. Apple Music is a quality service, with the right mix of human curation and algorithms to help users figure out exactly what they want to hear.

I can only imagine that the service will only get better from here. The more I use it, like/dislike songs, the better it will know me. I was interacting with Apple Music the entire time I was writing this and the radio station I started listening to improved quite a bit in those hours. I’m not skipping songs, instead I have a steady diet of Slash, Godsmack, Led Zeppelin, and Metallica. It’s hard to beat that.

While other streaming services didn’t worry much about Apple in the past, Apple Music will get their attention. In fact, it’s going to grab everyone’s attention.

Ein interessanter Aspekt, der bei The Loop zu finden ist, ist der, dass sich die Streaming-Qualität von Apple Music nach der verfügbaren Bandbeite und der Verbindungsart richtet. So wird euch daheim mit Breitbandinternetverbindung eine bessere Qualität geboten, als unterwegs, wenn über das Mobilfunknetz nur Edge zur Verfügung steht.

My first impression of Apple Music is that it’s the most full-featured streaming music app I’ve seen — and heard — and the first I’d consider paying for. But it may overwhelm some users, and I’ll need to live with it more before I can reach final conclusions.

The real heart of Apple Music is the For You tab. This is basically your music homescreen. When you open the section for the first time, you’re asked to go through a discovery exercise. This was lifted directly from Beats Music and it’s one of the best discovery tools I’ve used over the years. […] It’s hard for me to over-stress how much I like For You. From the very beginning, the recommendations in playlists and albums that the app showed me were dead-on accurate, reflecting my various musical interests.

Straight out, I was given a recommendation of a Taylor Swift love ballad playlist and albums from The Kinks, Sufjan Stevens, Elliot Smith, The Shins, Miguel and Drake. So basically my musical brain.

“One of the things we wanted with Apple Music was depth, said Cue. “We wanted you to be immersed in it when you started using it. Jimmy, Trent, myself, and others would go in a room—we argued a lot, we fought a lot, and we’re still doing it. We’re doing it on a few things we can change on this version.”

When I asked Cue how he would try to convince people that Apple Music was better than competing services, he said, “Ultimately, you can’t convince them, it’s just got to be better.”
