AirPrint iOS 4.2.1 Hack für Windows User

| 15:07 Uhr | 59 Kommentare

airprint_win

For our english guests: Developer Stephan has just released an english version of AirPrint Activator for Windows. The update improves, that the tool automatically detects, if the user has Win32bit or Win64bit. You just need one click. Moreover the „How to“ is translated into english. (nochmal Danke Stephan)

It took a bit of fiddling, but I was able to get AirPrint Activator for Windows working on my older WinXP home computer.

    Step 1: Download the file
(this was actually one of the hardest parts, since I don’t read German and the download sites given resulted in „page not found“ errors. I Googled it and eventually found a download site that saved a .rar file to my desktop.

    Step 2: Extract the RAR
This, too, was a bit time consuming, as I didn’t have an RAR extractor. I eventually found some freeware called IZArc that did the trick. Downloaded, installed, and then extracted the RAR. Noticed that it installed some junkware called CCleaner which I removed.

    Step 3: Run AirPrint Activator
Finally. Very non-eventful. Double-clicked the icon after installing the program and voila. Took about 3 seconds and said „done.“

Step 4: Go into Windows Firewall and make airprint.exe an allowed program
Airprint did not show up on the default list of installed programs. I had to browse for it. On my computer, it was under Program Files >> AirPrint.

Step 5: Set up computer with a user account
My computer didn’t have a password associated with my user account. My iPad didn’t like this. It kept prompting me endlessly for a username and password. So, I went into control panel, created a password for my account (I’m the administrator), and then rebooted. When I rebooted, it prompted me for a password as part of the „Starting Windows“ sequence (previously, it went straight to my desktop without prompting for my username/password).

Step 6: Print from your iOS device
For me, this was my iPad. I opened a webpage, clicked on the little „send file“ icon where you would normally set a bookmark, forward in an e-mail, etc. Clicked on „Print“ and my home networked printer showed up. I entered the username/password created in Step 5, and voila! It worked.

Installed iTunes on the computer. Then I could see the printer from the iPad/iPhone and printing worked as well.

    hi guys,
This installs easily. download software and click on the compressed file using winrar or similar to unzip it.
then click on the exe file and say activate on windows for your version. enable airprint thru your firewall. Then go to browser or email and open a document. foward it and you will have an option of print it. give it username and password for windows and click on print… it will ask which printer to use and away you go…

as has been said here several times you dont need to run airprint which is in C:program files/airprint.ex on windows xp…

Great! But I’ve tried on 3 different Windows computers now (Win7, WinXP*2) and I never got it to work. I have iTunes installed on all of them. Bonjour is running. I download, run, activate, allows in Windows Firewall (or disables firewall) and when „forwarding“ from my iPhones I get … Nothing. No printers found.

My iPod is able to find the printer but when I go to the printer and click on it it sits there and thinks and the circle next to it doesn’t stop spinning. Is that something to do with my firewall or is it to do with the type of user I am on Windows 7?

„Bonjour“ Service (is part of iTunes) must be up and running before „AirPrint“ Service is activated. May be this is not configured correctly by the installer. Check Services and that under „Dependencies“ the „Bonjour“ Service is listed.

    DUDES!

The mistake I made that was not made clear is that you must run the „Activate Airprint“ program AS AN ADMINISTRATOR. If you do not get the message „Done!“ after clicking the activate button, it will not work.

You must right-click on the activation program and choose to Run As Administrator.

Habe selber ewig probiert – is gar nicht schwer:
    😉
