TechCrunch

iPhone 11’s Night Mode is great. It works, it compares extremely well to other low-light cameras and the exposure and color rendition is best in class, period.

[…]

My battery tests over several days at the parks point to Apple’s claims about improvements over the iPhone XS being nearly dead on. Apple claims that the iPhone 11 Pro lasts 4 hours longer then the iPhone XS. The iPhone XS came in at roughly 9.5 hours in tests last year and the iPhone 11 Pro came in nearly bang on at 12 hours — in extremely challenging conditions.

The Verge

So, is it worth upgrading to the iPhone 11? If you’ve got an iPhone older than the XR and you’re looking to upgrade, I think the answer is yes. The camera is substantially improved, and you will get vastly better battery life than anything aside from a XR. That’s what most people care about, and Apple has really delivered here.

[…]

But after using an iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max for the past week, I think they’re more than the sum of several lightly updated parts. These are some of the most well-balanced, most capable phones Apple — or anyone — has ever made. They have excellent battery life, processors that should keep them relevant for years to come, absolutely beautiful displays, and a new camera system that generally outperforms every other phone, which should get even better with a promised software update later this fall.

Like I said at the beginning, with the added ultra wide camera and Night Mode, improved selfies, industry-leading A13 Bionic chipset, Gigabit LTE and Wi-Fi 6, and iOS 13 operating system, all starting at $699 — less if you have a trade-in or choose installments — iPhone 11 is the most compelling iPhone Apple has ever made.
The iPhone 11 is simply the new iPhone for everyone.

[…]

Again, the standard iPhone 11 is terrific. Like I said, what differences there are may not mean much to most people and that’s fine. That’s even the point. It’s the $699 iPhone for everyone.

But, if you’re exactly the type of nerd who really appreciates OLED displays, a professional photographer or videographer that really wants that new triple camera system, a power users who’s lusting for that longer battery life, sure, it may be missing out on USB C, the Pencil or ProMotion, but it’s packed with everything else. And that’s as pro as an iPhone’s ever been.

So, if you want the best of the best, the ultimate expression of the iPhone technology and experience today, you can reach for the absolute rafters with the iPhone 11 Pro or iPhone 11 Pro Max.

The iPhone 11 Pro and Pro Max offer the best that Apple is capable of right now, but we’re still left with an important question: Do you actually need everything on offer here? Certain changes, like improved battery life and the more flexible triple cameras, are updates everyone can enjoy. For almost everything else, though, the differences in actual day-to-day use can be so subtle that you’d be hard-pressed to really notice them.

Make no mistake: The iPhone Pros are better all-around compared to the XS series and are among the most powerful smartphones money can buy right now. But if you don’t need the best of the best, or still aren’t thrilled about the idea of dropping $1,000 on a phone — even if it’ll last you for years — the iPhone 11 is probably the smarter choice.

Apple also added a new night mode to the camera, which is awesome. It brightens up the scene in dark areas, like bars or just on a dimly lit street. You can see how well this works in two pictures my wife took of me outside of a restaurant.

I found that iPhone 11 Pro Max lasts well beyond a normal day of use. In one case, I woke up at 2:45am, drove up to San Francisco for TV, flew home to New York City and still had battery life when I finally got to bed at midnight Eastern. It had been in airplane mode for some of this, but I was still impressed. You can expect an additional 4 hours of battery life with the regular iPhone 11 Pro over last year’s iPhone XS, too.

Increasingly, people buy phones for the camera. Or rather: They buy phones for the pictures they can take and share with friends, family, and the internet. I’m no different. I like my phones to be good cameras — not in a “this image exhibits the silver halide qualities of true black and-white” way, but in a “this photo of my dog passed out after eating a dozen bagels looks great” way. And with its new triple-camera system (ultrawide, wide, and telephoto), Apple’s new iPhone 11 Pro line is a very good camera indeed. It is also a very good phone in a “Thing performs intended functions well. Thing good!” way, as I explained at length last year.

The device’s display is gorgeous and as bright as the contents of Marsellus Wallace’s briefcase. Finally, “spatial audio” — which uses some updated hardware to create a sort of 3D audio effect around your head — is kinda cool, even if I have no plans to watch Godzilla: King of the Monsters on a screen it was never intended for.

P.S. Und the Verge vergleicht ja auch wirklich die, was die Kameraleistung angeht schwächste Konkurrenz….
