Wir bringen euch kurz auf Ballhöhe, was sich alles getan hat. Zukünftig bietet Apple einen 21,5 Zoll non-Retina iMac, 21,5 Zoll Retina 4K-iMac und 27 Zoll Retina 5K-iMac an. Das 27 Zoll non-Retina Modell entfällt.

Neue Specs

Apple spendiert den Geräten allerhand Neuerungen. Kurzum: Die Geräte erhalten schnellere Prozessoren (beim 27 Zoll Modell kommen bereits die neuen Intel-Skylake Prozessoren zum Einsatz), eine verbesserte Grafikeinheit, neue Displays, die über eine erweiterte Farbskala mit 25 Prozent größerem Farbraum verfügen, zwei Thunderbolt 2 Anschlüsse, 802.11ac WiFi mit drei Streams, neue Speicheroptionen und mehr. Alle Geräte werden natürlich mit OS X El Capitan ausgeliefert.

Erste iMac Tests tauchen auf

Im Vorfeld der heutigen iMac Vorstellung hat Apple ausgewählten Medienvertretern die Möglichkeit gegeben, sich bereits intensiver mit dem Gerät zu beschäftigen. So schreibt beispielsweise Geoffrey A. Fowler vom Wall Street Journal

After using the new iMacs for a few days, I was reminded of why they’re my favorite computers: It’s all about that screen. The new displays underscore the appeal of the desktop for hours of immersive work like writing and creating images. Yet the iMac refresh left me disappointed on an important front: Apple isn’t moving fast enough on Macs to solve the password hassle. […] Apple has the right idea about one thing: To keep the desktop relevant in the post-PC world, it needs to offer experiences you can’t get in mobile devices, like incredible, immersive screens and precision keyboards and mice. But it also can’t let the iMac fall behind the mobile world in advantages like biometrics, which are changing how we interact with our digital world.

The iMac is still the best all-in-one, with an attractive (if predictable) design, near-standard 4K and 5K screens, and even better color accuracy than before. The 21.5-inch version is in some ways the more interesting of the two models, as this is the first time the smaller Mac has been offered with a Retina display.

That’s good news for people who are willing to pay a premium for a sharper screen, but don’t quite have the desk space for the bigger 27-inch model. In addition to the computer itself, the peripherals come close to stealing the show: They’re finally rechargeable, for one, and the keyboard in particular takes up less space, despite having larger buttons. The Magic Trackpad now supports Force Touch too, so if you happen to enjoy those pressure-sensitive gestures on the MacBook Pro, Apple Watch or iPhone 6s, you can now have the same experience here.

After spending a few days with it hands on, I realized the screen does more than just make things look pretty. It makes the entire experience richer. And now that you can get the same experience for a few hundred bucks cheaper with the 21.5-inch iMac.

The best thing about the 4K iMac is that you don’t have to use a gigantic 27-inch model if you want to get a Retina display. There are plenty of people who prefer the larger screen, but for those who find it intimidating or just too big for their workspace, the 4K model is here and it’s waiting with open arms. The more-than-doubled resolution and Retina scaling modes give it more multitasking potential than the non-Retina iMacs too.

The 5K iMac is an incredible computer, one of the best Macs ever made—but it’s also just too much for many people. A 27-inch display can dominate a desk or a room, and though the price tag has come down a lot in the past year, it’s still on the pricey side. In contrast, here’s the iMac with 4K Retina display. It offers a lot of screen space but isn’t awkward to maneuver around a table top. The prices on the three models are more reasonable though you’ll want to upgrade the hard drive to a Fusion Drive or pure flash storage if it fits within your budget.

Der neue iMac 2015, sowohl das 21,5 Zoll und 27 Zoll Modelle kam in den Reviews zum Einsatz, kann voll und ganz übereugen. Insbesondere das überarbeitete Display hinterlässt Eindruck bei den Testern. Hier und da gibt es in den jeweiligen Reviews leist Kritik. So werden beispielsweise ein Touch ID Fingerabdrucksensor sowie USB-C vermisst und es wird sich ein Fusion Drive anstatt einer normalen HDD beim Einsteiger-Modell gewünscht.
