Apple akzeptiert ab 01. April 2018 keine watchOS 1 Apps mehr

Apple richtet sich an seine Entwicklergemeinde und fordert Entwickler auf, ihre Apple Watch Apps zu aktualisieren und die Vorteile von watchOS 4 und Apple Watch Series 3 zu nutzen.

Apple fordert Entwickler auf, Apple Watch für watchOS 4 anzupassen

Apple bittet seine Entwickler von den Vorteilen von watchOS 4 und Apple Watch 3 Series 3 Gebrauch zu machen. Unter anderem nennt Apple die gesteigerte Performance, neue Background-Modi für Navigation und Audioaufnahmen, direkte Verbindung zu Core Bluetooth und mehr.

Im Apple Dev Center heißt es

Enable your watchOS apps to connect anywhere and anytime, even without a phone nearby, by updating for watchOS 4 and Apple Watch Series 3. Take advantage of increased performance, new background modes for navigation and audio recording, built-in altimeter capabilities, direct connections to accessories with Core Bluetooth, and more. In addition, the size limit of a watchOS app bundle has increased from 50 MB to 75 MB.

Please note that starting April 1, 2018, updates to watchOS 1 apps will no longer be accepted. Updates must be native apps built with the watchOS 2 SDK or later. New watchOS apps should be built with the watchOS 4 SDK or later.

Darüberhinaus dürfen watchOS App-Bundles 75MB anstatt 50MB groß sein. Apple betont, dass das Unternehmen ab dem 01. April keine Updates für watchOS 1 Apps mehr akzeptiert. Apps müssen mit dem watchOS 2 SDK (oder neuer) entwickelt sein und nativer Natur sein. Apple empfiehlt, dass Apps mit dem watchOS 4 SDK entwickelt werden. Als Apple die Original Apple Watch mit watchOS 1 auf den Markt brachte, liefen die Apps (noch) nicht nativ auf der Apple Watch, sondern auf dem iPhone. Dies änderte sich mit watchOS 2. Seitdem laufen Apps auch nativ auf der Apple Watch und ab April kommenden Jahres wird dies zur Pflicht.
