Apple eigene Modem-Chips für das iPhone vermutlich erst ab 2025

Apple ist schon seit einige Zeit unzufrieden mit der Leistung von Intel. Dies umfasst nicht nur Prozessoren für den Mac, sondern auch Modem-Chips für das iPhone. Dies dürfte ein Grund dafür sein, dass der Hersteller aus Cupertino eigene Modem-Chips für das iPhone entwickelt. Allerdings wird es noch ein paar Jahre dauern, bis diese soweit sein.

Vor wenigen Wochen haben Apple und Qualcomm ihre Patentstreitigkeiten beigelegt und eine mehrjährige Partnerschaft vereinbarte. Gleichzeitig gab Intel bekannt, dass das Unternehmen die Entwicklung von 5G-Chips für das Smartphone einstellt. 

Der iPhone-Hersteller ist stark daran interessiert, eigene Modem-Chips für das iPhone zu entwickeln. Bis es soweit ist, werden allerdings noch ein paar Jahre vergehen.

Dem Bericht von The Information zufolge ist Apple schon länger als gedacht enttäuscht von den Intel Modem-Chips. Es heißt

It was early 2017 and Apple was preparing a new line of iPhones to be released the next year, but the Intel modem for the devices, known as the 7560, wasn’t working properly, according to two people with knowledge of the relationship. […] Intel had already overhauled the modem four times to bring it up to par with the latest Qualcomm modem. But missed deadlines and continuing technical issues with the chip were making Apple executives anxious, said one of the people. 

„This would have never happened at Apple under my watch,“ Mr. Srouji barked at his Intel counterpart, Venkata „Murthy“ Renduchintala, during a meeting on Apple’s campus, according to the person, who was present at the meeting.

Kurzum: Apple arbeitet intensiv daran, eigene Modem-Chips für das iPhone zu entwickeln. Dies wird allerdings noch ein wenig Zeit in Anspruch nehmen. Aktuell gehen die Gerüchte von 2015 aus.
